Highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCDs) - Cluster Dextrin® is produced from amylopectin by using a cyclization reaction with a branching enzyme. The result is a glucose polymer with ideal properties: very low osmolality about 150 mOsm with relatively high molecular weight and therefore very rapid gastric emptying. It means that the solution of HBCD will spend less time in your stomach compared to traditional carbohydrates and will therefore reduce discomfort when ingested during exercise (sloshing around in the stomach).

Carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function (contraction) after strenuous and/ or prolonged exercise involving muscle fatigue and depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscle.
The beneficial effect is obtained by the consumption of carbohydrates from all sources totalling the equivalent of 4 g per kg of body weight, with an intake in doses starting within the first 4 hours after intense and/ or prolonged exercise involving muscle fatigue and depletion of glycogen stores in the skeletal muscles, and concluding 6 hours after exercise.
This new class of carbohydrate-based supplements, defined as "designer glucose polymers" or highly branched cyclodextrins (HBCDs), is the next evolutionary step for the various carbohydrate-based products on the market.
HBCDs are a new type of glucose polymers that are made from the reaction between waxy maize and a particular enzyme, forming a cyclical structure. The result is a glucose polymer with ideal properties, for example, an average molecular weight of 160,000 Da with very low osmolality, and therefore, very rapid gastric emptying.
